Delhi,08/02/2025:
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has achieved a significant victory in the Delhi Legislative Assembly elections, securing power in the capital after 27 years. The BJP won 48 out of 70 seats, surpassing the two-thirds majority mark. This victory ends the Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) decade-long governance in Delhi.

In the 2015 and 2020 elections, AAP had secured record victories with 67 and 62 seats respectively. However, in this election, AAP managed to win only 22 seats. The Indian National Congress continued its decline, failing to secure any seats for the third consecutive time.

Several prominent AAP leaders faced defeats. Party leader and former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal lost the New Delhi seat to BJP’s Parvesh Verma by over 4,000 votes. Former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia was defeated in the Jangpura constituency by BJP’s Tarvinder Singh Marwah by more than 600 votes. Other key AAP figures, including Satyendar Jain and Saurabh Bharadwaj, also lost their respective seats. However, Atishi Marlena, the incumbent Chief Minister, managed to retain her seat in Kalkaji, defeating BJP’s Ramesh Bidhuri by a narrow margin.

The BJP’s return to power in Delhi is attributed to its robust campaign and strategic planning. The party’s promises to improve infrastructure, education, and healthcare services resonated with voters. Prime Minister Narendra Modi hailed the victory as a mandate for development and good governance.

This election marks the BJP’s first victory in the Delhi Legislative Assembly since 1993. From 1993 to 1998, the BJP had three Chief Ministers: Madan Lal Khurana, Sahib Singh Verma, and Sushma Swaraj. After 1998, the party was out of power in Delhi, with the Congress governing for 15 years, followed by AAP’s decade-long rule.

The BJP’s victory in Delhi is seen as a significant boost for the party, especially after it failed to secure a majority in the national elections last year. This win is expected to strengthen Prime Minister Modi’s political momentum and enhance his standing both nationally and internationally.
