Berhampur,28th March 2025: The Berhampur Town Police have registered a criminal case against seven individuals for organising the Danda Nacha Jatra without proper permission, violating time restrictions, and allegedly promoting vulgar representations during the event.
The case, registered under Berhampur Town PS Case No. ___ dated 28.03.2025, invokes multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) along with provisions from the Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act, 1986, the Orissa Fire-Works and Loud Speakers (Regulation) Act, 1958, the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act, 1984, and the Police Act, 1861.

The accused are charged with organising the cultural event without prior permission from authorities, exceeding the permissible time limit, and performing obscene dance moves.
Authorities have reiterated that organisers must seek proper approval from the local police station and the Sub-Divisional Magistrate for loudspeaker usage and stage arrangements. As per the Supreme Court’s directive, the use of loudspeakers is prohibited after 10 PM, and any indecent representation on stage will invite legal consequences.
Police have warned that any future violation of legal provisions will be dealt with strictly, and criminal cases will be registered against those responsible.
