Berhampur,31/03/2025: A tragic murder took place at Jena Sahi under the jurisdiction of Badabazar Police Station in the early hours of today. The incident occurred during the Danda Nacha Jatra, where a dispute over the placement of the stage led to fatal consequences.
According to reports, the Jatra stage, along with the light and sound system, was arranged by a father-son duo from Belagaon, Ganjam. Another individual, Jagadish Panigrahi, also from Belagaon, had accompanied them. The three had known each other for over 30 years.
At approximately 2:30 AM, a heated argument broke out between Jagadish Panigrahi (the deceased) and Trinath Panigrahi, the owner of the Jatra troupe. The dispute arose because Jagadish had taken money from certain individuals, expecting that Trinath and his son would set up the stage at a particular location. However, when the father and son refused, Jagadish realized he would incur a financial loss.
In a fit of rage, Jagadish Panigrahi attacked Trinath Panigrahi, striking him on the head with a stone. Seeing his father being assaulted, Pradeep Panigrahi, son of Trinath, intervened and, in a moment of provocation, attacked Jagadish with a keychain knife. Jagadish sustained a severe bleeding injury to his neck.
He was immediately rushed to MKCG Medical College and Hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead.
Accused:
1. Pradeep Kumar Panigrahi (40), son of Trinath Panigrahi
2. Trinath Panigrahi (73), son of Late Budhi Panigrahi of Beleswar Sahi, PS- Belagaon
Deceased: Jagadish Panigrahi (34), son of Gourahari Panigrahi of Mainroad Sahi, Belagaon, Ganjam district.
