Berhampur, April 15: The Berhampur Police have arrested wanted antisocial Sathish Kumar Mishra alias Mouja Mishra, who had been on the run in connection with multiple heinous crimes including two murder cases.

Mishra, the prime accused in the Shanti Mishra murder case (Gosaninuagaon PS Case No. 11/13) and the Berhampur Station murder case (GRPS Case No. 25/06), was apprehended today from his hideout in Jatni. Acting on confidential intelligence, a police team tracked him down and arrested him from a rented accommodation where he had been living under disguise.

The operation was led by Inspector Smruti Prava, IIC of Gosaninuagaon Police Station, and included SI Gyanaranjan Behera, SAi Gaurab, ASI Ranjith Raula, OAPF personnel Anand Sabar and Sanjeev Rao, and Constables Ajit and Krishna. The team used innovative undercover techniques—posing as civilians working in pawn and vegetable shops—to monitor the accused’s movement before making the arrest.

Mishra has a long criminal history. He was first arrested in 2006 for the murder of Ganesh Suna near Berhampur Railway Station, along with five others. Although he secured bail after six months, he absconded. That same year, he was again arrested in a rioting case (Baidhyanathpur PS Case No. 135/06).

In 2013, he was arrested in the Shanti Mishra murder case along with 11 others. After being granted bail in 2016, Mishra stopped appearing in court, and a Non-Bailable Warrant (NBW) was issued against him in 2019. Since then, he had been absconding to evade the legal process.

Recently, the Shanti Mishra murder trial concluded with the conviction of 11 co-accused, all of whom have been sent to jail. Mishra, however, remained at large and was also reportedly involved in a firing case targeting former mayor Pintu Das during his time on the run.

Currently, four NBWs are pending against him across various police stations in Berhampur for crimes including murder, bomb attacks, attempted murder, and rioting.

The successful arrest marks a significant victory for Berhampur Police in their continued efforts to crack down on organized crime.
