Berhampur, June 2: The 5th State Police Badminton Championship 2026-27 commenced at the Reserve Police Ground, Ambapua, Berhampur on Monday. The tournament was inaugurated by IG of Police (Southern Range) Niti Sekhar, IPS, in the presence of Berhampur SP Dr. Saravana Vivek M, IPS.
A total of 16 teams from various Odisha Police ranges and battalions are participating in the championship. Matches are being conducted at multiple venues, including the BeMC Sports Arena and UCP College Ground.
In the Veteran Singles category, 19 matches were played, with Debasis Parida and Devendra Pani (WR Rourkela), and Prabhat Maharana advancing to the semifinals. In Veteran Doubles, six matches were held, with four teams securing semifinal berths.
The championship, organised by Berhampur Police, aims to promote sportsmanship and fitness among police personnel across the state.
