Berhampur, May 18, 2026: Signature Packaged Drinking Water has launched a three-year mangrove restoration project at Astaranga in Odisha, aiming to revive degraded coastal ecosystems through a community-led conservation initiative.
The project spans five coastal villages along Odisha’s eastern coastline and focuses on restoring over 62 acres of degraded land. More than 30,000 mangrove saplings have been planted as part of the initiative, alongside sustainable livelihood programmes for local communities.
Mangroves are considered one of the world’s most vital ecosystems as they absorb up to four times more carbon dioxide than rainforests, protect coastlines from erosion, and preserve biodiversity. However, they remain among the most threatened ecosystems globally.
The initiative reflects Signature Packaged Drinking Water’s “One With Nature” philosophy, which emphasises long-term, community-driven environmental action and measurable ecological impact.
Anandita Datta, Vice President and Portfolio Head-Marketing at Diageo India, said the Odisha mangrove restoration project represents the company’s commitment to meaningful environmental progress through sustained community participation and conservation efforts.
The company said the project integrates ecological restoration with support for local livelihoods, embedding conservation into the everyday realities of coastal communities rather than treating it as a standalone campaign.
To amplify awareness about the initiative, Signature Packaged Drinking Water has also launched “The Mangroves Regeneration Pledge”, a brand film featuring brand ambassador Ayushmann Khurrana. The film highlights climate change, sustainability, and the grassroots conservation efforts being undertaken along India’s coastline.
