PURI, 13 JULY 2026 — In a significant move to boost public safety and emergency infrastructure, M/s IREL (India) Limited, a premier Central Public Sector Undertaking (CPSU) under the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE), officially handed over four Mahindra Bolero vehicles to the Office of the Superintendent of Police, Puri.
The ceremonial key handover was led by Sri Sarada Bhusan Mohanty, Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of IREL, alongside Sri CVR Murty, gm & Head, OSCOM. The keys were formally received by Additional Superintendent of Police, Sri Sachin Patel.
Speaking on the occasion, CMD Sri Sarada Bhusan Mohanty highlighted the company’s structural role as a profitable Central PSU. Under Section 135 of the Companies Act 2013, IREL dedicates 2% of its net profit toward Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) projects aimed at community empowerment.
“The Central Government is heavily focused on the extraction of critical minerals,” noted Sri Mohanty. “IREL is actively launching its Beach Sand Minerals (BSM) mining project in the region. This project will extract Monazite, the essential source mineral for producing Neodymium-Praseodymium (NdPr) oxide. NdPr oxide serves as the critical raw material for manufacturing high-performance permanent magnets, positioning this project as a vital asset to national strategic technology.”
The newly donated Bolero vehicles are specifically deployed to strengthen vital public utility services across Puri, including:
Police Patrolling: Expanding surveillance capabilities in urban and coastal zones.
Crowd Control: Managing heavy pilgrim influxes during major festivals.
Disaster Management: Ensuring rapid logistical deployment during natural calamities.
Emergency Response: Speeding up reaction times for public distress calls.
This initiative builds on IREL’s long-standing history of impactful community interventions in Puri. Prior milestone CSR contributions include the installation of a 1,000 Litres Per Hour (LPH) Reverse Osmosis (RO) water purification plant, comprehensive lighting infrastructure upgrades at the historic Alarnath Temple and Chandan Puskarini, and the installation of solar streetlights. Additionally, the company has set up tinkering, deployed dedicated protocol officers at protocol wing, and donated eco-friendly battery-operated vehicles to facilitate smooth transit for elderly and differently-abled devotees visiting the holy town. Continuing this legacy, IREL is providing free food distribution (Nishulk Annadan Seva) to 22,000 devotees and ensuring reliable drinking water facilities during the Rath Yatra and Bahuda Yatra 2026.
Through these continuous efforts, IREL reaffirms its dual commitment to advancing India’s strategic mineral security while simultaneously driving grassroots social development.
