Berhampur, May 21: The Odisha Vigilance on Wednesday launched simultaneous searches at seven locations associated with Sri Malaya Kumar Nayak, Assistant Engineer of Rural Water Supply and Sanitation (RWSS), Kolnara Block in Rayagada district, over allegations of possession of disproportionate assets beyond his known sources of income.
The raids were carried out on the strength of search warrants issued by the Court of the Special Judge, Vigilance, Berhampur. The operation is being led by five DSPs, six Inspectors and other supporting staff of the Vigilance Department.
According to Vigilance sources, searches are underway at properties linked to the engineer in Ganjam and Rayagada districts. The locations include a triple-storeyed residential building at Soundarya Nagar, Lochapada in Berhampur, his native house at Tholanda Bada Danda Sahi under Jagannathprasad area in Ganjam district, and houses belonging to his relatives at Balipindi Sahi and Pankal Sahi in Buguda.
Searches are also being conducted at the house of his in-laws at Kamalapur under Golanthara area near Berhampur, his rented residence at Roit Colony in Rayagada, and his office chamber at the Kolnara Block office.
Vigilance officials said the searches are continuing and further details regarding the assets detected during the raids are awaited.
