BERHAMPUR, July 6: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Monday flagged off the Brahmapur–Udhna (Surat) Amrit Bharat Express at Brahmapur Railway Station, inaugurating a new daily rail service between Odisha and Gujarat.
The inaugural function, organised by the East Coast Railway’s Khurda Road Division, was attended by Odisha Commerce & Transport, Steel & Mines Minister Bibhuti Bhusan Jena, Berhampur MP Dr. Pradeep Kumar Panigrahy, Aska MP Anita Subhadarshini, Minister Gokulananda Mallik, and other dignitaries.
The new daily train is expected to strengthen connectivity between the two states while providing a convenient travel option for migrant workers, students, business travellers and other passengers.
Addressing the gathering, Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced that Brahmapur Railway Station will be redeveloped into a world-class railway station under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme at an estimated cost of around ₹300 crore.
He said the upgraded station would feature modern architecture, state-of-the-art passenger amenities, improved accessibility and seamless multimodal integration, transforming it into a landmark gateway to southern Odisha.
The Minister also assured that he would return to Brahmapur to participate in the foundation stone-laying ceremony for the ambitious redevelopment project, reaffirming the Centre’s commitment to strengthening railway infrastructure in the region.
