Berhampur, 07/03/2026: Two minor girls escaped from the Utkal Balashram in Berhampur on Saturday, triggering concern among authorities. The girls, aged 12 and 13, reportedly fled the shelter home by scaling the rear boundary wall.
Sources said the two minors had recently been rescued by police while they were allegedly engaged in begging at traffic junctions in the city. After their rescue, they were produced before the Child Welfare Committee (CWC), which directed that they be kept at the shelter home for care and rehabilitation.
However, the girls managed to escape from the facility shortly afterwards. Police have launched a search operation to trace the missing minors and bring them back safely. Further inquiry into the incident is underway.
