Berhampur, June 21: Golanthara Police on Saturday arrested a 24-year-old man in connection with the alleged abetment to the suicide of a 20-year-old BCA student. The accused, identified as Biswajit Jena alias Papu, son of Manmath Kumar Jena of Pandarasahi village under Golanthara police limits, was produced before the court after his arrest.
The case relates to the death of a second-year BCA student of Gandhi Engineering College, Golanthara, who was found hanging in her hostel room on June 20 by her sister and other roommates. She was immediately rushed to MKCG Medical College and Hospital, where doctors declared her brought dead.
Based on a complaint lodged by the deceased’s uncle, Golanthara Police registered Case No. 226/2026 under Section 108 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for abetment to suicide against the victim’s boyfriend, Biswajit Jena, and launched an investigation.
Senior police officers, including the SP of Berhampur, visited the scene of the incident. A scientific team and an Executive Magistrate also inspected the spot. Police conducted the inquest in the presence of the Executive Magistrate, while a team of doctors carried out the post-mortem examination.
Investigators have seized the electronic devices of both the deceased and the accused for forensic and technical examination. Police said further investigation into the case is in progress.
