Berhampur, May 6: In a major boost to urban infrastructure, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has sanctioned the construction of two new flyover bridges in Berhampur under the Central Road and Infrastructure Fund (CRIF) for 2026–27.
One of the proposed flyovers will be constructed on NH-59, connecting Giri Road junction to the Old Bus Stand via PVN Rao petrol pump within Berhampur Municipality in Ganjam district. The project has been approved at an estimated cost of ₹16,826.60 lakh.
In addition, another flyover bridge with approaches has been sanctioned on NH-59 from Tata Benz Square to MKCG Medical College, at a cost of ₹14,601.46 lakh.
These projects aim to decongest some of the busiest traffic corridors in the city, improving vehicular movement and reducing travel time for commuters. Both stretches frequently witness heavy traffic due to their strategic importance, connecting key commercial hubs, healthcare institutions, and residential areas.
The sanctions are part of a larger approval of 10 infrastructure projects worth ₹76,969.17 lakh allocated to Odisha under the CRIF scheme. Officials stated that the flyovers will significantly enhance road safety and cater to the city’s growing transportation demands.
Further details regarding the tendering process and construction timelines are expected to be announced soon by the state Public Works Department.
